These 18 km of forest trails are part of the Sauble Nordic Ski Club network of loops, now open to cyclists in the summer. As such, the ski paths are wide with no tight turns (though I find most Nordic ski trails are wider).

Now rather wild and grown-over, the area was mostly sand dunes many years ago so the terrain has quick, up-and-down hills.

How to categorize this ride? To some, it could be an Advanced Park ride, yet for a mountain biker, it is rather easy Beginner-level terrain.

Sauble is a well-treed ride with a sandy base, so wide tires are suggested.

However, there is one open patch on the north side many may find too sandy. Calling all Fatbikes!
The south end is covered in forest and could have soft muddy patches if it has rained. (And then you can be sure to expect bugs ’n bites!)

Other than perhaps getting stuck in the sand, most of the ride flows well.

Make it to the Rankin River and riders will find a small, picturesque pond and dam, with a shelter and some benches that make this area ideal for a snack break.

This is rarely a busy place…
